Winners of the 2020 West Virginia What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?Contest Announced

Wow, what a contest!  Social distancing may have extended the voting period and delayed the awards ceremonies, but it didn’t derail our efforts.  Thanks to Paul Ruggieri, Glass Valley Media LLC, we were able to produce virtual ceremonies to recognize the student participants.

Middle School Students Discover What’s So Cool About Manufacturing

WHEELING, April 14, 2019 – Explore: The New Manufacturing celebrated the West Virginia What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Video Contest during a virtual awards ceremony Tuesday night with six local middle schools and six manufacturing companies.

“Today’s middle school students will be tomorrow’s workforce in manufacturing in West Virginia, said Monica Cross, Program Director of the WVMAEF. “This generation has a real opportunity to have lifelong careers in modern manufacturing environments that will use skills in technology, problem-solving, innovation and communication.”

Eastern West Virginia What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest Virtual Awards Ceremony

“In this age of social distancing, the Explore team is busy developing a virtual ceremony to honor the hard work and creativity that our participants have put into to creating a group of amazing videos, “ said Program Director Monica Cross, who oversees the fund’s Explore the New Manufacturing Program that links industry with educators and students across West Virginia. “Students, 7th and 8th graders, produced mini documentaries on a local manufacturer to compete for three awards: Most Creative, Best Manufacturing Message, Viewer’s Choice.”

Eastern Panhandle students fare well in manufacturing video contest

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The West Virginia Manufacturers Association Educational Fund celebrated the “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing” video contest Tuesday night at a ceremony at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College.

The contest featured five local middle schools and five manufacturing companies.

The program included speakers discussing the future of manufacturing related to industry, and getting students out of the classroom and into the manufacturing field.
