Northern West Virginia What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest Virtual Awards Ceremony

Wheeling, WV – Explore: The New Manufacturing will hold a virtual awards ceremony for the Northern West Virginia student video contest, What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? on Tuesday, April 14th, at 6:30pm.  The ceremony will be available on the Explore YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/mmmyQ6Ocmeg

“In this age of social distancing, the Explore team is busy developing a virtual ceremony to honor the hard work and creativity that our participants have put into to creating a group of amazing videos, “ said Program Director Monica Cross, who oversees the fund’s Explore the New Manufacturing Program that links industry with educators and students across West Virginia.  “Students, 7th and 8th graders, produced mini documentaries on a local manufacturer to compete for three awards:  Outstanding Creativity, Best Manufacturing Message, Viewer’s Choice.”

Participating schools are Bridge Street Middle School, Brooke Middle School, Moundsville Middle School, Oak Glen Middle School, Sherrard Middle School, and St. Joseph The Worker School. Local manufacturers include the Mull Group, Inc., Eagle Manufacturing Company, Tecnocap LLC, The Fiesta Tableware Company, the Ziegenfelder Company, and Pietro Fiorentini USA.  The contest has been sponsored by Chevron and the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation.  Educational partners, West Virginia Northern Community College and Bethany College, provided video training to the teachers.   Video cameras were provided by the Explore: The New Manufacturing, a nonprofit organization that links education and industry through interactive programs. The program is funded by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and Chevron, as well as company and individual contributions.
