What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest

WHEELING, March 30, 2022 – Explore the New Manufacturing is pleased to release the Oak Glen Middle School’s video submission in the Northern Region What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest.  The Oak Glen video showcases Pietro Fiorentini, an Italian company, located in Glen Dale, West Virginia.

The students are competing for three regional awards: Outstanding Creativity, Best Manufacturing Message, and the Viewer's Choice.  Visit https://www.exploremfgwv.com/students/student-video-contest.html to view the Oak Glen video.

“The video contest is so important because it gives students the opportunity to collaborate with each other and the community. They learn about companies they didn’t know existed, which could lead to potential career paths,” stated Sydney Wagstaff, Oak Glen Middle School teacher.

Participating students: Bailey Ash, Kaidyn Burton, Boden Konchar, Averi Martin, and Jersey Smith.

“In a such globally competitive, fast-changing world we are experiencing, manufacturing is no longer the old wrenches, sweat and grease style,” stated Mattia Pizzocaro, Director of Operations, Pietro Fiorentini USA. “The future of manufacturing will be defined by innovation, efficiency, connectivity, and sustainability combined, and these are roles we need to fill today in the industry. At Pietro Fiorentini USA, we believe we need to give new generations a real idea about what manufacturing is and how the manufacturing world has evolved, attracting new talents to contribute to and sustain the future challenges we’ll need to deal with as an industry.”

Participating employees: Mattia, Francesco, Samantha, Wesley, Collin, Shon, and Fabio.

“Today’s middle school students will be tomorrow’s workforce in manufacturing in West Virginia,” said Program Director Monica Cross, who oversees the Explore the New Manufacturing Program on behalf of the West Virginia Manufacturing Association Educational Fund’s efforts to create student awareness and excitement about careers in manufacturing and the training opportunities for these positions in their local areas. “This generation has a real opportunity to have lifelong careers in modern manufacturing environments that will use skills in technology, problem-solving, innovation and communication.”
