Brooke High School Manufacturing Innovation Challenge Team Presentation at Marsh Bellofram Corporation

Newell, WV, February 23, 2023 - Explore the New Manufacturing is pleased to announce the completion of a Manufacturing Innovation Challenge involving Brooke High School pre-engineering students and the Marsh Bellofram Corporation. The company challenged the students to improve the testing method for one of their fastest-moving liquid level controllers. As part of the challenge’s final phase, the team will present their solution to company representatives on Monday, February 27, 2023.

“We’re excited to work with the Manufacturing Innovation Challenge and Brooke High School for the second year,” stated Dan Williams, Marsh Bellofram’s Vice President of Marketing & IT. “The challenge allows us to show students that there are opportunities to use STEM skills in the Ohio Valley. Students like those from the pre-engineering class are exactly the type of future engineers, technicians, and problem solvers that we seek out.  We’re proud to be part of their educational foundations and wish them well in the challenge!”

"The Manufacturing Innovation Challenge and Marsh Bellofram provide students with a tangible experience of solving authentic problems using the skill sets, knowledge, and experience they have been learning in the classroom," commented Brooke High School Project Lead the Way instructor, Thomas Bane. "Students are always asking, 'When will I ever use this in the real world?' The best part is that this educational opportunity happened in our backyard at a local manufacturing facility!"

Participating Brooke students:  Julia Anderson, Will Cruny, Jeg Hilt, William Kreider, Steven Miller, Sam Mockbee, Christian Packer, and Nick Sagan. Students were able to draw support from the Marsh Bellofram team including engineers, process improvement personnel, and management to help reach their goal. "It has been great to watch the partnership between Brooke High School and Marsh Bellofram Corporation develop over the last two years," said Program Director Monica Cross, who oversees the Explore the New Manufacturing Program. "The Manufacturing Innovation Challenge presentation day is the culmination of several months of teamwork and problem-solving. Everyone is excited to hear the team's solution and the discussion on the feasibility of implementing the solution. Explore the New Manufacturing is proud to partner with two outstanding organizations.”
