“We were remote for most of the first semester, which limited our capabilities to complete hands-on projects required by our curriculum. To keep my students from falling behind, I prepared kits of necessary materials to send home. Students in my Civil Engineering class were able to create models of different architectural designs with the materials I sent home. I also used our LMS to allow students to give presentations for projects completed at home.”

“Brandon’s students cannot say enough about how much they enjoy learning about engineering. It’s evident in talking with Brandon that he is very passionate about his profession and his students and coworkers. He has had so much success in his short career that I am excited to see what the future holds for him.”

“Brandon is a selfless educator who is committed to a more engaging approach of education. Brandon adopts context over content and restores joy and wonder to STEM. This, in my view, is the way that true STEM teaching and learning should happen—and, not surprisingly, it starts by building a strong relationship with every student, an attribute that Brandon exemplifies daily.”

“In CTE and Engineering, we strive to work with community partners to provide real-world examples and applications. We have several individuals who work at local engineering firms to give presentations and schedule tours of the workplace to show students that there are opportunities for them, even in Mingo County. We also use the Simulated Workplace Model to motivate students and prepare them for the workforce future by utilizing random drug testing and focusing on attendance.”
