WPHS students design project for Wheeling-Nippon Steel

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF)- Wheeling Park High School and Wheeling Nippon Steel are partnering up to teach students. Machine tool tech students were challenged by the steel company.
 
Students were asked to build a grapple for Nippon Steel and the challenge was accepted and conquered.
 
The Wheeling-Nippon GM says the students nailed the prototype and now they’ll design the real thing with aluminum.

St. Joseph School and Procter & Gamble team up for the West Virginia What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest

Explore the New Manufacturing is pleased to release St. Joseph School’s video submission in the Eastern Region What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest.  The video showcases the creation of many popular products manufactured by Procter & Gamble, located in Inwood, West Virginia.

North Middle School and Technimark team up for the West Virginia What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest

Explore the New Manufacturing is pleased to release North Middle School’s video submission in the Eastern Region What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest.  The video showcases the injection molded plastic produced by Technimark, located in Inwood, West Virginia.

"Introducing manufacturing as a career opportunity for young people opens more doors than you realize," stated Amy Lopez, Technology Integration Specialist at North Middle School.

Participating North students: Chloe Bryson, Sasha Conner, Kylee Delara, Rylee Delauter, and Makenzee DeLeon.

“At Technimark, we believe it is never too early to educate students about the opportunities in manufacturing,” commented Director of Operations Kevin Coley. “Our hope is to spark an interest in manufacturing that will one day grow into a workforce on fire for continuously improving our processes. 

Participating Technimark employees: Belinda Talkington (IT Specialist), Erica Simpson (Operations and Supply Chain Manager), and Kevin Coley (Director of Operations). 

“Today’s middle school students will be tomorrow’s workforce in manufacturing in West Virginia,” said Program Director Monica Cross, who oversees the Explore the New Manufacturing Program on behalf of the West Virginia Manufacturing Association Educational Fund’s efforts to create student awareness and excitement about careers in manufacturing and the training opportunities for these positions in their local areas. “This generation has a real opportunity to have lifelong careers in modern manufacturing environments that will use skills in technology, problem-solving, innovation, and communication.” 

Mountain Ridge Middle School and Quad Graphics team up for the West Virginia What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest

Explore the New Manufacturing is pleased to release Mountain Ridge Middle School’s video submission in the Eastern Region What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest.  The video showcases the printing process used by Quad Graphics, located in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Charles Town Middle School and Argos USA LLC team up for the West Virginia What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Student Video Contest
